Post-type for Liftech projects

POLA Low Profile Crane Conceptual Design

In response to the community’s desire to preserve the marine view, Port of Los Angeles offered to consider low profile cranes for Berths 100–102. Liftech studies indicated that the conventional low profile cranes did not comply with the port’s seismic design standards for the wharves.

Freeport OMG Crane Damage Assessment

The forestays of an Officine Meccaniche Galileo (OMG) crane were twisted and became entangled as a result of Hurricane Frances in September 2004. Liftech was retained to assist with the assessment and repair of the forestay system.

Crane Damage Assessment, Pusan, Korea

On September 12, 2003, Typhoon Maemi struck the Dongbu Pusan Container Terminal causing the sequential collapse of six out of seven HHI container cranes at the terminal. Liftech was retained to assist with the damage investigation and to provide expert opinion on technical issues related to the design and fabrication of the stowage hardware on the crane and in the wharf.

Puerto de Cartagena Crane Procurement

Liftech was retained by Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) to provide engineering services for the procurement of two ship-to-shore container handling cranes for Puerto de Cartagena. SPRC chose Noell Crane Systems to provide the 60 t, 51 m outreach cranes. The cranes were built by Noell China in Xiamen, China.

Darwin Crane Modification and Relocation

In response to Darwin Port Corporation’s decision to relocate a 1980’s IHI crane to a wharf with a different rail gage, Liftech designed a scheme to change the crane’s gauge from 19.8 m to 25.3 m. The scheme involved extending the existing portal beams by five meters on the land side, relocating the landside legs, and removing the elevator track below the portal beam.

VPA Elevating Girder Crane Design

Liftech worked with VIT and ZPMC engineers to develop the elevating girder crane design. The upper works (including the trolley girder, boom, trolley girder support beams, A-frame, apex beam, and stays) may be hoisted to any of five preset elevations to reduce hoisting time to suit ship sizes. Liftech provided full procurement services for the project.

Matson Paceco Crane Relocation, Oakland to Hawaii

Matson bought two used Paceco cranes from the Port of Oakland for their Sand Island facility. Rigging International transported them by barge to Sand Island. Liftech checked the cranes for the voyage forces, designed the reinforcing for the cranes and the tie-downs to the barge, and checked the barge structure for the voyage loads.

New Century Crane Procurement

Liftech was retained by China Shipping to provide engineering services to procure four dockside cranes. Liftech prepared the technical specifications, assisted with the structural design of the cranes, and reviewed crane design, manufacturing, and commissioning.

VPA Crane Procurement

Liftech provided Virginia Port Authority with crane procurement services including technical specifications, crane design review, and manufacturing review. Liftech also provided engineering consulting with the design of the elevating girder crane whose upper works (trolley girder, boom, A-frames, stays, trolley girder support beams) can be hoisted to one of five preset operational elevations, depending on the ship size, to reduce the required hoist distance and unloading time.
