On January 22, Simo returned to his home at Liftech after 13 years of other experiences in the container crane and heavy lift industries.
From 1992 to 2000, Simo worked at Liftech on crane design and crane modifications and managed our Port of Oakland Berths 57/58 wharf design project. Wanting to return to Denmark where he grew up, he left Liftech in 2000 to join the container terminals department Maersk Line, later APM Terminals, based in Copenhagen.
At APM Terminals, in Denmark and the Netherlands, Simo worked on various projects in operations, innovation, and crane engineering, and led the effort to consolidate all crane procurement under one entity. In 2004, he established the Technical Department, now APMT Crane Engineering Services, of which he was Director from 2005 to 2007. From 2007 to 2009, Simo served as Director of R&D and Innovation and Director of Market Intelligence. Wanting to return to the Bay Area, he went back to engineering and worked at Bigge Crane and Rigging on heavy lift projects, and then Halcrow/CH2M Hill on crane and container terminal projects.
Simo returns to Liftech with an extensive knowledge of the container industry including companies, terminals, operations, and equipment. This knowledge, combined with his engineering skills, will be a great asset to the Liftech team.
