Liftech developed a new STS hoist system design that provides the same functionality as existing systems but without a gearbox, high speed brake and coupling, snag protection, and depending on the configuration, trim-lift-skew system. The design uses large diameter, low speed, high torque, Siemens electric motors, without a gearbox, to turn the drum. The segment torque motors are an existing technology proven in manufacturing industries. The initial cost varies by configuration but in the simplest configuration is expected to be 10% less than traditional hoist systems. The design reduces maintenance and improves energy efficiency.
