On the first day of May, eastbound traffic on the Bay Bridge halted to minimize bridge deflection while giant cranes passed underneath with only 5 feet to spare. The cranes, manufactured in China by ZPMC, were being delivered to the Port of Oakland. The two smaller cranes will be installed at Berth 26, and the other two on Berths 57-59.
Liftech reviewed the structural design, structural fabrication, and seafastening of these cranes for the Port of Oakland. Liftech founder Michael A. Jordan was invited to witness this event on one of the accompanying boats, and had the opportunity to take the following photographs:
